Busy, busy, busy.

Rarely do I let the grass grow under my feet at any time of the year but occasionally I do take a step back from working on the land to concentrate on things closer to home, like the garden.

Thanks to Maddy and Chloe I now have five planters in which to put my veggies as soon as the seedlings are strong enough to brave the outside world (and the bugs).

Now I know I should be concentrating on cutting back the weeds but you know what, being my own boss does have its perks, occasionally.  Besides, the weeds aren't going to go anywhere so they can stand to be ignored for a day or two, (or at least that is what I keep telling myself).

So with this in mind I decided to catch up on a spot of gardening, as well as lay a new path and get round to building a bigger chicken run. (this will be covered in a seperate post)

For the path we started out by laying down some stepping stones.

After which we then filled in the gaps between the stones so that the weeds won't be able to grow and trip us up as we walk along it.

The finished result.

I am actually thinking about giving the path a splash of colour, but that dear friends will have to wait for a little while as I have many other projects planned.  And to be honest I think it looks great as it is.

Thank you Caleb and Christopher for a job well done.

Recycling of materials is a great idea to my way of thinking, it not only saves the planet but also money so when given the chance I will make use of many different materials that other people might throw out. One such material are used pallets. The wood can be used for a variety of projects as can be seen on the internet these days. I just love 'You Tube'.

But boy do they use a lot of nails to hold them together.

My plan is to use the wood to build planters etc just like this one.

(Thanks Maddy for building this one for me).

Speaking of recycling, we also built a new step so that I can get onto the wall garden more easily using cut off pieces from a concrete block and an old block that was just lying around.

This is how it was before we got busy..

If you are wondering about the rather large looking gap between the base step and the one in the wall this is because there is a pipe running along the bottom of it, one I need to be able to get to if necessary.  As it is, it is perfectly placed, so no more struggling to get up on to the wall, now I just step up and away I go.

Thanks Caleb for all your help.

I am thinking of cladding the step with natural stone to help it blend in better with the surroundings, but again that is for a later date.
