We named them Bonnie and Clyde as they were on the run from the law who for some reason looked suspiciously like a fox.
Poor Clyde the Cockerell had already had a scuffle with him and had lost his tail and a sizeable amount of feathers off his side for good measure, but he was a survivor and now lives happily with Bonnie on our finca and tells the world each morning what a happy cockerell he is.
Thanks to Jesse. (From the US)
And Adriano (from Brazil) sorry no photo of him due to camera malfunction doh! the work was made so much easier.
When Rob (from the US) came to us we were in the thick of trimming back the Olive trees. However, due to high winds we had to curtail this operation which led us to asking him to help us with a few projects we wanted to do around the house.
He helped us prepare and lay an area of concrete in front of the Almacen, we used recycled tiles that had been removed from the house water storage tank for the hardcore, it saved sending them down to a landfill which has to be a positive don't you think.
Rob kindly added a little artistic decoration along the way.
It's a flower!
He then went on to help lay some crazy paving, (if he wasn't crazy before I reckon he is now, boy did he lay some serious amount of stone, nearly two tonne)
We built small walls around the base of some of the trees and put the soil we dug out from beneath the crazy paving area inside.
Rob then left us to go to his next Workaway placement but came back to visit us six weeks later as he had booked a fishing expedition on the River Ebro with my friend Natalie of Catfishingadventures.
Whilst staying with us he kindly offered to help do some more work, (what a sweetheart) and finally got to trim a few Olive trees as well as do some burning. For some reason he was always behind the camera when it came to photo time so all I can say is..... Next time Rob, next time.
Sjoerd (from Holland) came in between Rob leaving and returning and was kind enough to help me with the weeding using the ever faithful Azada's that I have come to rely on. During his stay he also helped repair a wall that had fallen down.
Part of the original wall was built on top of a piece of bedrock, this in theory is a good thing, solid base, right. Yes and no. Yes if the bedrock has a flat enough surface for the stone to lay on top of it and for gravity to pull straight down. No, if if the bedrock is steeply angled, (you can see what it was like in the photo). Thankfully Sjoerd was up for a bit of chisselling and made a shelf so that the stones could sit nicely on top which in turn means gravity is no longer our enemy but our friend.
Then came Maddy and Chloe.
We started out trimming back the Olive trees and clearing the land beneath so we could work without tripping over..
Toby my dog was on hand to supervise as always.
When the winds came back we attended to matters closer to home in the shape of a little bit of gardening.
From this....
To this....
Not a very flattering shot of me, but hey, we can't all be supermodels can we.
Getting there....
Just a little bit more...
Maddy showing off his body.
Ta dah!..
Thumbs up... Job well done.
But these guys didn't stop there.
They built a new keyhole garden.
They remodelled my original keyhole from this.....
To this....
And used the excess soil from it to make a couple of these....
Which means I can hopefully grow more of my own veg this year. YAY.
Maddy and Chloe also built a garden seat for us out of our old Cassita door.
A sawhorse so we no longer have to bend so far.
A wooden planter.
A doggy door curtain (to stop the flies getting in)
